Roots to Wings: Sensory Processing for Parents
This DVD is the best for helping parents understand that there is hope and help for their child with Sensory Processing Disorder. I've used this resource for years in helping parents understand sensory issues and that it does get better. Actual Families are interviewed and give their testimonies of where they started and how much better life is now. It is a great DVD for professionals to show parent groups,
schools or individuals. And it is a MUST for parents in a clinical setting, a support group or just good to raise awareness.

Learning about Learning disabilities DVD
- Best DVD to understand sensory issues:
The best resource I've ever had when talking to teachers and parents about sensory issues is a video with a misleading name: Learning About Learning Disabilities. It was given the name because A. Jean Ayres, PhD, who developed the theory of Sensory Integration Dysfunction, did the majority of her research in the area of learning disabled children. I love this 17-minute DVD for the purpose of awareness and understanding. The perspective is not about what SID/DSI/SPD "is" but rather what it's like for a child to go through the school day with sensory issues! I have shown this to faculties and PTA's for over a decade and repeatedly I receive the comment, "I get it! I really understand what these kids must be going through." .

Autism Conversations
Evaluating Children on the Autism Spectrum Through Authentic Conversations
by Marilyn J. Monteiro, Ph.D.
In the Autumn 2009 issue of S.I. Focus magazine, Marilyn Monteiro introduced our readers to
her assessment process strategy for children. Now her book is available!
With the publication of the MIGDAS in 2008, Marilyn Monteiro introduced a revolutionary
approach to diagnosing Asperger's Syndrome--an approach that has rapidly
gained recognition and acceptance across the country. Now Dr. Monteiro
addresses the entire autism spectrum in a new book, Autism Conversations,
which presents a more authentic, individualized, and accurate way to evaluate
children who may have autism or Asperger's Syndrome.
Based on thousands of real-world evaluations, Autism Conversations
opens up and
improves the assessment process, looking at aspects of autism not Adequately
covered by current diagnostic criteria. The book demonstrates that
conversation--among evaluators, teachers, parents, and children--is vital to
accurate diagnosis. Using vivid case examples, Dr. Monteiro presents an
evaluation approach that yields a detailed, nuanced picture of each child,
leading to more individualized intervention. She also gently guides parents
through the diagnostic process, which many find complicated and emotionally draining.
